Omena

Welcome to Omena

Beautiful Omena is a quiet, often-overlooked village in northern Leelanau. Located just south of Northport and on the easterly shore of the peninsula, Omena is - for many - the very best of the County. Designated as a Historical District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017, Omena is an unincorporated coastal village with mid-19th-century charm and spectacular views over Omena Bay.

This relaxed waterfront community is host to many historical buildings and residences, including the Omena Post Office and the Omena Yacht Club, among many others. Nearby Cherry Basket Farm was recognized as Barn of the Year in 2015 and is a popular wedding and event space for lease. Popular local businesses include the renowned Knot Just A Bar and neighbor Leelanau Wine Cellars Tasting Room, Tamarack Gallery, and the new Omena Bay Country Store for all your gifts, snacks, and goods.

Omena is well known for its busy agricultural sector of cherries, apples, grapes, and hops (with both organic and conventional growers nearby), but is equally known for its secluded coastal beauty and wildly desirable shoreline. The arm of Omena Point reaches around the easterly side of Omena Bay and is home to the Yacht Club, private hiking trails, and many exclusive residences. North of the Point, Ingalls Bay, and a long straight stretch of shoreline up to Northport is a mix of private residences, youth camps (Shady Trails), and vintage lodges and retreats. The right combination of simple lifestyle plus astounding natural beauty makes this some of the most desirable places to live in Leelanau County.
