Lake Leelanau

Welcome to Lake Leelanau

The village of Lake Leelanau is located in the heart of Leelanau County on one of the area’s most beautiful and well-protected waterways - the Narrows. Preserved by the Leelanau Conservancy in 2001, “This iconic wetland that joins North and South Lake Leelanau is perhaps one of Leelanau’s most viewed landmarks, seen from the bridge on M-204 and by boaters who traverse the channel.” The area is home to over 120 plant species, wetland birds, and other unique wildlife, and is truly the crossroads of the County!

Aside from the obvious beauty of the area, Lake Leelanau is a burgeoning hub for food and wine, in particular. Enjoy the delight of music on the lawn at Boathouse Vineyards or the flavors of locally made spirits at Northern Latitudes Distillery. From there, follow either the Sleeping Bear Loop or the Northern Loop of the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail to over 13 different wineries, all within minutes of town. Lake Leelanau is also home to important County amenities, including the Leelanau County Government Center, Leland Township Offices, the Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy, and Lake Leelanau St. Mary Catholic School. A sweet, bustling county village, Lake Leelanau is a great place to vacation or live year-round!
