Cedar

Welcome to Cedar

Cedar is a delightful inland town, located in southern Leelanau county. Victoria Creek (or the Cedar River) runs through town and has recently been established as one of the newest and most important land preservation projects by the Leelanau Conservancy. This Cedar River Preserve is a “...548-acre undisturbed wetland complex in the Solon Swamp [and] is an environmental superhero that protects the health of Lake Leelanau.” For kayakers and canoeists, this is an untouched, no-current wetland with much to explore and enjoy.

In town, Cedar is a growing hub for local artisans and collectors and is a great place to grab a bite and a few pints. The Cedar Tavern is well-loved by locals and is open year-round, while the Blue Moon Ice Cream Shop and Cedar River Coffee Company provide the right seasonal offerings to keep any visitors satisfied.

The village’s biggest event, the Cedar Polka Festival, is absolutely not to be missed. This annual festival celebrates the town’s rich Polish history. “Lasting 4 days and nights, nearly 10,000 people descend into town for family fun. Join us to eat, drink, and dance the nights away!”

Cedar is a short 15-minute drive to downtown Traverse City and, in the opposite direction, is an easy ride to the Sleeping Bear Dunes near the southwest corner of the County. Central to many things, Cedar is a quiet place to live deep in the heart of all things Leelanau!
